A Key Interior Design Trend for 2018

A Key Interior Design Trend for 2018

Last year we were all very heavily influenced by the sophisticated grey tones of Scandi & Nordic trends as minimal living went viral through peoples’ homes. As the dazzling lights of Christmas died down and the miserable skies of January imposed on our homes, our wonderful greyish toned rooms are left helpless, flat & deflated. That’s why I wanted to make you aware of a key interior design trend for 2018 that is hitting our homes and complimenting all the all hard work that we did in 2017.

A Key Interior Design for 2018

Introducing the colour yellow to your homes, I am going to talk about some key fabric designers that have some very tasteful & gentle yellows in the collections and how to incorporate it with your Nordic / Scandinavian feeling rooms, without hitting the bank balance, but staying on-trend with interior fashion.

Providing the modern day neutral yellow,  Ashley Wilde has an alluring collection of cushions that will offer that subtle colour that will illuminate any room, without costing you a fortune.

Designer fabrics brand Prestigious Textiles has engulfed yellow tones & nature as posted in their latest Prestigious Textiles blog in December, this brings some fun and interest, especially the hedgehog print. As I always state, this doesn’t have to be in the home, you can pull this into a restaurant, public house, hotel, B&B. It adds more appeal and if you are using the fabrics for cushions it can change an entire look without you having to a lot of money.

Another idea is to simply add one piece of yellow furniture or an item to a room which has no colour. This chair is currently £351 in the Sofa.com sale. It’s called the Betty Armchair and it’s made with Canary Cotton Matt Velvet fabric. A similar chair was used in our customer’s bedroom below.

Our customer wanted a modern, industrial bedroom and it has come alive with these yellow & grey blinds & curtains for bi fold doors. The interior design of this bedroom in Woking, Surrey is bold and brave, what a statement it makes!

The coordinating chair is from Sofa.com and using their yellow velvet fabric we made the blinds on the inside of the recess in the bedroom and on the outside of the recess in the dressing room.  The large grey velvet curtains over the bifold doors out onto the balcony add to the industrial look. The made to measure wave header curtains are on a channel rod system for a modern, sleek look.

The yellow lampshade is hand painted by a top designer. This bedroom really has got the wow factor!

Another idea to add colour to a room can be as simple as a yellow throw in a grey toned bedroom, all of these ideas help pop out the colour in the room and add some interest.

Roald Dahl Ashley Wilde Playroom

One of my favourite fabric collections for children’s rooms has to be the Roald Dahl Fantabulous fabrics collection. It’s a really fun fabric collection showing off Quentin Blake’s illustrations that any child would love. With last year celebrating the 100 year anniversary since the birth of Roald Dahl, there couldn’t be a better way to honour your love of Dahl’s characters.

There are a range of fabrics, each depicting different Roald Dahl characters, you are sure to find your favourite character to bring some nostalgia into your home.

I used the Matilda fabric for my own children’s playroom for the curtains, pelmet and floor cushions and they absolutely love it.
